Accused "Craigslist killer" Philip Markoff commits suicide
Accused “Craigslist Killer” Philip Markoff committed suicide at Nashua Street Jail in Boston, where he was being held awaiting trial in the slaying of Julissa Brisman, 26, who was visiting from New York, according to Steven Tompkins, spokesman for the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office.

Media surrounded the Nashua Street jail this afternoon and into the evening as prisoners held up signs to their windows commenting on Markoff’s death.
One sign read, “I’m staying alive.”
Another said, “All rapists should die.”
Markoff had been placed on suicide watch shortly after his arrest nearly a week after the slaying.
In April 2009, Markoff was examined by medical staff at the jail and put in a special cell under camera surveillance after a correction officer saw marks on his neck that suggested he had tried to use shoelaces to hang himself, the Globe reported at the time.
In May, a prison official told the Globe that Markoff was no longer being segregated from other prisoners. He was acclimating well, playing chess with the other inmates, according to the official.
Police arrested Markoff, who was living in Quincy, on April 20, 2009 after stopping him on Interstate 95 in Walpole. Markoff told police he was headed to the Foxwoods Casino in…

BBC News - Craigslist responds to ‘prostitution’ claims
Web marketplace Craigslist responds to claims the site adult section ‘aids sex trafficking’ and ‘promotes prostitution’.
…”I was first forced into prostitution when I was 11 years old by a 28-year-old man,” the latter went.
“All day, other girls and I sat with our laptops, posting pictures and answering ads on Craigslist.
“I am 17 now, and my childhood memories aren’t of my family, going to middle school, or dancing at the prom.
“They are of making my own arrangements on Craigslist to be sold for sex, and answering as many ads as possible for fear of beatings and ice water baths,” the letter continued.
The letter said that Craigslist was now the choice of traffickers because it was “so well known and there are rarely consequences to using it for these illegal acts”.
The firm’s chief executive, Jim Buckmaster, replied by asking if the “perpetrators are behind bars” and if the advocacy groups who placed the adverts could “let us know where the police reports were filed”.
“We have been unable thus far to identify police reports matching the crimes you describe,” the statement read.

No one is looking for these guys. And I see why.
…Sigh. No one is looking for these guys. And I see why. They hump everything in sight, try to dominate our old doggies, try to eat our cats and pee on everything and bark at everything. Neurotic, lick constantly. They know no commands, either in English or Spanish. They are aggressive and probably lived in a puppy mill. You dumped them, probably, and we picked them up before they were killed by traffic. Unneutered, no tags, under 1 year old small males. I hate you, person who dumped these dogs. There are no lost ads on phone poles, no lost ad on Craig’s list, no lost ad in the paper. We put signs up all over, put a found notice in at the local pounds and if you were looking for these filthy little ragamuffins, you would have found them. We are afraid to take them to the pound because under stress, your dogs were snappy and horribly afraid and dogs are judged by temperament for adoption placement. They would not have passed that test. However……..

The Internal Revenue Service claimed Orellana hadn’t reported more than $41,000 of income from about 1,800 eBay sales of designer clothes, shoes and other items during 2004 and 2005 and said she owed nearly $15,000 in taxes and penalties. Orellana appealed to the U.S. Tax Court and lost. The court said she didn’t provide adequate documentation of her costs and expenses to offset the income.
Orellana said she didn’t consider herself to be in “business” and thus didn’t think she had to keep records, according to the court decision last month. She said she originally bought the auctioned items herself or received them as gifts. “Unless there was some really bizarre reason why I kept a receipt, there were no receipts,” Orellana testified.
